when i was 20 in september of 2009 i decided i was going to do everything i possibly could to become a rapper… without a studio, any beats, no engineer, no money, virtually no performance experience, and a miserable semester of university under my belt.

before i decided to fully take on an uncertain path in an extremely over saturated industry… i decided i was going to go to Tokyo. i did this because i wanted to start this rapper mission with the most inspiration i’ve ever had. it worked.

a few weeks before going to Tokyo i watched Lost In Translation. a movie with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson that takes place in Tokyo. the movie was awesome and got me excited about the things i’d be seeing and experiencing when i’d get there. but during the movie i kept hearing a reoccurring melody in the scoring… so i creeped the soundtrack for the movie out and after going through almost every single song to find the right track, i found it.. sampled it.. and used it for On My Way.. you know that distinctive choir-ish vocal in the intro? ya.

this was maybe the 20th beat i ever made… i just bought a blue bird microphone and stuffed it in my closet.. me and Reds made the most make shift booth ever… the same one i use today and if you saw it you wouldn’t believe i still use it… but it works… i didn’t know anything about mixing, i still don’t know anything about mixing.. i’ve been using Audacity, probably the most novice wave editing software out there.. but i just kept manipulating my vocals until something sounded right.. and eventually shit started sounding right.

so On My Way was finished before we went to Tokyo and we felt like the song was a big deal.. might not be to everyone, and i obviously have so much to work on as an artist.. but to us, it was soundtracking our journey.. we were all going through a time where we were about to take major risks and sacrifices to try and get to this place in our minds that we constantly see ourselves at.. and Tokyo was when we said… fuck this, fuck everyone that is telling me this is unrealistic.. i’m about to live my dreams or die trying…

we got back a little after my birthday (november 7th) and i was pumped… made alotta songs, some terrible, some good, some with alot of potential… theeennnn my hard drive burnt out and i lost everything.. pretty much shattered my universe. so i had to restart the entire process, about 3 months worth of sample digging, drum kit collecting, etc… i was just starting to learn everything and build so losing everything that early in the process after being so inspired and so stoked was really discouraging… but i couldn’t stop, this is what i thought i was ready for right? anything…

fastforward to today… my set up looks a little bit better but i’m still a novice in the industry… don’t know much about anything, just enough about everything to be able to produce my own music, find inspiration to write, record my own vocals and make a decent enough mix for people to enjoy it.. the music in On My Way is exactly what the title suggests.. a few songs that display the potential of a 21 year old rapper/producer from Toronto that is on his way to wherever this dream will take em’.. and all i ask from anyone who listens to this is that you appreciate that.

i never watch tv. the only time’s i’ve dedicated anytime to the television were for The Office and Dexter.. and now Breaking Bad.. this shit is better than any movie or show you could have watched in recent history.. truth! here’s a brief synopsis via AMC.

Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live.
