built successful
Friday, August 21st, 2009people often wonder where artists get their inspiration from (i use the term “artist” lightly when regarding my self, since i’m a novice that’s taught him self enough of everything to create some cool shit, but still has alot to learn… i just dont like being dubbed a “producer”, too industry-ish).
i was watching Mean Girls (pause, no homo, etc…) with a couple homegirls lastnight. with every movie i watch i naturally pay close attention to the scoring. a familiar guitar intro came on late in the movie and i recognized the song but didn’t know who sang it or what it was called… buuuuuut wikipedia has an answer for everything. so i brought up the mean girls soundtrack and found out it was called Built This Way by Samantha Ronson. 30 seconds later it was in Reason. i’m not a pro at mash ups and remixing so i thought i’d mess around with the beat i made using the sample from Built This Way and add Drake’s vocals from Successful but i couldn’t find the a cappella, so it turned into a cool mash up. might sound a little offkey sometimes cause i’m still figuring out pitch adjustment.
anyways, we find inspiration everywhere… even in Mean Girls.
here it is, Built Successful
(sorry about the crummy quicktime window, just right click and open in new tab… it’ll have to do for now until i find out how to have a practical music player on here… i’m learning!)
UPDATE: nevermind, i learned! now everytime i post a song just click it and a little player will pop up.
